Welcome to charlton-down.com a site about the village of Charlton Down in Dorset. Charlton Down is a brand new village set in the heart of the Dorset countryside, close to the county town of Dorchester and within the Parish of Charminster. The village is home to about 1600 residents and was once a mental hospital. Aspects of it’s original use can still be seen in three main ‘houses’ that are now apartments and flats.
There are many activities that take place in the village, including a Cricket Club, with it’s own cricket pavillion; a fabulous village hall with the best sprung dance floor in Dorset, our very own gym and health spa and last but not least, the shop.
